Wednesday, 1/30/08, "C" Day

English 1 CP (Period 4)

Objective:

To decide the when it is appropriate to escape reality and for how long.

In class:

1). Viewing of random television clips.

2). Discussion of escapism.

3). Symbolism in The Odyssey relating to escapism and responsibility.

4). Discussion about whether or not Odysseus acted correctly by pulling his crewmates back onto the boat, using real-life examples.

Homework:

Reread Assignment 1 of The Odyssey. Prepare Open-Ended Question.

English 1 CP (Period 7)

Objective:

To identify Odysseus' heroic traits.

In class:

1). Answered Open-Ended Question about Assignment 1 of The Odyssey.

2). Worked in groups to find Odysseus' heroic traits from The Odyssey film.

3). Worked in different groups to find Odysseus' heroic traits from Assignment 1 of The Odyssey reading.

4). Journal: Would you follow Odysseus into battle? Why or why not?

5). Discussed the heroic traits demonstrated by Odysseus in both the film and the text.

Homework:

Assignment 2 of The Odyssey reading.

English 3 CP (Periods 1 & 5)

Objective:

Students will identify the classic hero traits possessed by William Wallace.

In class:

1). Discussed the reasons why William Wallace chooses to fight.

2). Watched Braveheart on DVD, chapters 9 through 12 ("Guardian of Scotland").

3). Responded to the objective: How does Wallace present himself as a classic hero?

4). Defined the word "defenestrate" (to throw from a window).

Homework:

Research paper. Vocabulary Quiz #9 on Friday, 2/1/08.
